...It's never their fault. So the terrace song goes. Of course the scousers wring their hands and jump up and down and claim this chant is all about Hillsborough, it doesn't matter what you do or say they want it to be about Hillsborough...why? Because they love nothing more than feeling victimised. 'Ashamed of nothing, Offended by everything'' so true and we shall see why -
Before Hillsborough there was a large number of scouse vermin who used to love singing about the Munich disaster, they labelled United fans as Munichs. That was fine. They had songs and banners revelling in it. Their supporters group - The spirit of Shankley, had a Christmas party and were filmed singing Munich songs...class act eh? The clubs official twitter account tweeted a post about up and coming songs to play at Anfield during a match that featured digs about Munich...nothing wrong there then? The terrace song about 'Always the victim...' has no reference to Hillsborough but scousers love to say it is and that they are being mocked and their dead ridiculed because it is a golden opportunity for them to play victim and try to get more sympathy. What right does anybody have to mock their tragedy because after all they have never mocked other clubs tragedies before Hillsborough have they? So what is the song about? Lets discuss shall we?
The Heysel disaster happened in 1985 in the European cup final between Juventus of Italy and our own loveable Liverpool. Liverpool fans (best in the world aye they?) ran riot and began charging and attacking the Juventus fans which lead to the deaths of 39 innocent Juventus fans. Straight away the Liverpool chairman John Smith claimed the violence had been from other English fans who had turned up to cause trouble, they couldn't be Liverpool fans could they? He claimed there had been fans with 'southern accents' on the terraces and that Chelsea fans were involved. It took Liverpool two decades, twenty years, to accept their fans behaviour was the cause of 39 innocent people dying and during that time they repeatedly said they were not to blame, meanwhile those families of the dead had to watch Liverpool FC accept no responsibility on behalf of their fans and scramble around to blame anybody but themselves...Always the victim, it's never their fault.
Louis fucking Suarez, a nasty piece of work and a vile human being. A footballer who was caught biting an opponent in Holland before he joined Liverpool...where he went on to get caught biting an opponent....then he went on to the 214 World Cup where he, yep you guessed it - got caught biting an opponent. Of course during the last two the scum was a Liverpool player and boy did they revel in the ''he's innocent'' claims and candle lit vigils for him. In between his hunger games (pardon the pun) we had a little incident where he got caught and charged for racially abusing a black player during a game. Suarez admitted calling Evra a 'negro' and was handed an 8 game ban...something Liverpool FC fully opposed, in fact during one pre-match warm up they wore T-Shirts with his image on the front and name on the rear in support. Let's look at that again, they had a payer who admitted he racially abused someone, denied it and the club stood by him and claimed he was innocent and labelled the black player as a liar. Of course they could have waited for the FA's investigation to conclude and react to the findings bit why wait when you know you are being victimised. The worlds press swooped when the two clubs played each other at Old Trafford after the racists ban concluded and whether or not Evra would shake Suarez's hand...well he extended it but Suarez decided a black man's handshake was beyond him, and cue more scousers lighting candles at how Suarez was being victimised for being criticised for refusing to participate in a sporting gesture of handshaking...Always the victim, it's never their fault.
Michael Shields was a Liverpool fan convicted of attempting to murder a Bulgarian man who tried to stop a fight between a group of English people outside a chip shop. He had a concrete slab dropped on his head and suffered significant brain damage. Three witnesses and the victim himself pointed out Shields in a line up. He was sentenced but while serving that sentence he found a lot of support from a certain club who claimed...yep you can see a pattern here...that he was a victim. Jamie Carragher dedicated a goal to him and Steve Gerrard wore a T-shirt demanding Michael be freed now and a campaign was set up from victimised central - Merseyside. After 4 years inside apparently new evidence was discovered by Home Secretary Jack Straw, coincidently not long after the Free Michael brigade said they would be running in the General election in his Blackburn constituency. This new evidence has never been revealed but Michael was given a Royal pardon, let's not get this confused with being found not guilty or innocent because they are different things, but Interestingly enough still that evidence has never been revealed and Michael Shields has never tried to clear his name...Always the victim, it's never their fault.
The terrace chant 'Always the victim...' is directed at the above and not Hillsborough, I have my own opinions of that but they will be saved for another day. What scousers love more than anything is instigating things then trying to scramble on the high ground claiming they are being victimised, and if they can link it to Hillsborough then that's even better. You see it in football forums up and down the country where they begin 'banter' with opponents players or your club then suddenly get offended when you return the favour about theirs
