Well in two and a half weeks time United will begin their pre-season tour...and It couldn't come soon enough for those of us who desperately need a fix of United. Yeah we've had England women's football and U21 action but it's snacking on peanuts while waiting for the Domino's pizza to arrive.
Few things have really started to annoy me recently, though while I am not saying Van Gaal deserves to be removed, I will state publicly that I do not believe he is the man for the job. My belief in Van Gaal is that he is the stop gap to the next appointee who will be 'The one' and I still doubt we'll finish top four next season under Van Gaal. We need a bloody Right Back first of all...how Van Gaal was happy with Valencia there for the vast majority of last season beggers belief. Tony V did his best but he isn't someone who (and lets be honest) top teams would turn to week in-week out especially when that period passed through a winters transfer window and also having several other players who either play as a RB or are more comfortable in that position than Tony V. McNair was, as Van Gaal said. going to be our clubs RB for the next decade...then he proceeded not to play him there. Rafael ignored, Jones? Smalling? Van Gaal himself said he wanted our transfer business done early so he could let the players start to gel before pre-season...well we are just over two weeks away and we have not had one official bid for a RB.
On a quick side note - rumours suggest Coleman at Everton is a target, a target promoted in the media is about as reliable as a snapped walking stick cello-taped together. If Everton sell you know it will be for £30 million plus...if...all reports out of that God foresaken hell hole known as Merseyside says they won't. I hope if the rumours are true that we play exactly the same game of hard ball when they come knocking for loans or transfer queries for themselves...same with Spurs, I am sick and tired of teams mugging us off and then we bend over backwards when they come calling.
Anyway, back on point....so we have so far not bid for any recognised Right Backs, it could be we start the new season with Tony V covering there and if that is how it unfolds then I think serious questions need to be put to Van Gaal. So we come to Sergio Ramos. A guy who will turn 30 during this season and who undoubtedly is using us for a better contract at Real Madrid. We have been heavily linked with Schweinsteiger, another player who is heading for the wind down years more than reaching his peak. What the hell are we playing at? In 3 years we will be in exactly the same position and looking at a large spending spree to replace the players we are going to be splashing out a fortune to bring to the club this summer! Back to Ramos, so a player with a terrible discipline record will probably cost us in the region of £40 million while a more fitting and younger CB at Valenica would cost us cheaper we seem to be ignoring that fact. Van Gaal must be trying to link the deal in with De Gea who's disgusting treatment of the loyal United fans borders on obscene. Not once has he had the balls to come out and say he wants to return home, no, he just keeps silent and forces through this move and holds all the cards as his contract runs down and he leaves for a free next season. United hold no power in the Madrid discussions as they can easily wait and stick with Casillias for another season and pick him up for free...personally I can't wait to see him leave and choke on the venom he'll get from the fickle Madrid fans when he makes the first few errors of which he is more than capable of. It doesn't matter how good his performances he will make the odd clanger occasionally and then you can ask Ronaldo how loyal the Madrid fans are then...white hankies abound and not just because they are a bunch of wankers.
Depay aside, and remember Van Gaal had his hand forced to sign Depay early, we are looking like a club stumbling and without a clear plan. Liverpool, and I feel dirty for saying this, have identified their targets and got them early and done some good deals too - Clyne for £12 million is bloody good business and I don't mind admitting I am slightly surprised Van Gaal would rather have Tony V as RB than Clyne...I judge that on the basis that we have not been in for any other RB this summer. This week we are expected to complete the signing of Schneiderlin from Southampton, which if true will be a very good signing especially for £25 million but as these reports are from SKY (the same SKY that has given us more links this summer than a charm bracelet.
Rant over, sorry but our dealings so far this summer have left me a little bemused for a huge club with a large war chest and with no clear direction.
